Last night I floated this five questions idea, and it really caught on. I’ll post a few today throughout the day in between the other items. If you’re new to the concept you’ll catch on quickly. First up is from yvaithe.
1. When did you start following the Mets?
My earliest remembrance is Pat Zachary and Craig Swan. I also remember the return of Seaver. I was born in ’75
2. What is your favorite Mets memory?
Obviously the ’86 season. I practically watched every game that season.
3. What is your worst Mets memory or experience?
To be honest, I hated the 2009 season. For me, with the expectations going into the new season, new stadium, bullpen fixed. I honestly thought they would at least finally make the playoffs after the 2006 season. The way the ’99 NLCS ended is up there along with the called strike three Beltran took. Being a Mets fan is all about disappointment I guess
4. If you could change one off-field thing about the franchise what would it be?
Omar=GONE, Jerry=GONE, I would have rehired Bobby V and anyone off the street would be better than the disaster that is Omar
5. If you owned the team starting tomorrow, what is the first thing you would change?
I would give the team a sense of Identity. I would reverse EVERY single decision the Wilpons have made with regards to the uni’s and colors. I would return the NY to the Mets logo, I would have ONLY blue caps and no black anywhere. If there need to be a 3rd jersey, then I’d have something akin to the ’83 all blue. I’d also start Metsifying Citi Field.
If you’d like to be part of this just email me at [email protected] They do read us out in Flushing, you never know who might be influenced by what you write! I’ll post another one later this morning.

1. When did you start following the Mets?
1973. Have vague memory of the season and
1973 WS which they lost to Oakland in 7
games.
2. What is your favorite Mets memory?
1986 post season. Game 6 against Astros, Games 6 & 7 in '86 Series.
3. What is your worst Mets memory or experience?
Too many to count, but losing the NLCS in
'88 to the Dodgers was painful.
4. If you could change one off-field thing about the franchise what would it be?
Wilpon's sell the team. Liked Doubleday
better. He would do whatever it took to
make the team better. If he wasn't in
control in 1998, Piazza wouldn't have been
a Met. Wilpon didn't want Piazza.
5. If you owned the team starting tomorrow, what is the first thing you would change?
Would bend over backwards to celebrate the
history of this club. Not just Tom Seaver,
Mike Piazza, Jerry Koosman, etc., but the
Marv Throneberry's and Choo-Choo Coleman's
of the world. Embrace the history, good and
bad. They both work together to make the
Mets what they are.
1. 1969—the Mets had all of Queens jumping, and Jerry Grote and Al Weis were neighbors in Glen Oaks. However, I didn't attend my first game until 1970.
2. It's sad to say that my favorite Mets memory took place in the Bronx in 1994 when 40,000 fellow Mets fans and I swarmed into Yankee Stadium on Phil Rizzuto Day to see Tom Seaver gain his 300th win for the White Sox.
3. Everything after Endy's catch in Game 6…nothing has gone right since then.
4. A no-brainer—an ownership team that has a long-term vision of building a winning franchise. I'm finding myself more in favor of a salary cap, mercenaries don't turn me on anymore, and we've few home-grown players to be proud of.
5. Reduce ticket prices for the fans and make the most odious of the partial-view seats $5 each, make the OF symetrical and "fair" with an 8-foot fence, "de-Dogerize" the new stadium as much as possible, eliminate the "exclusive" clubs (they have zero to do with baseball), and be honest with the fans about a rebuilding project that may take up to five years if the farm system is to be rebuilt. And yes, dump the black-and-blue attire. Orange and Blue, baby!!!
