9. The Kaz Matsui Error
The Japanese Derek Jeter? I think not. Infielder from the far East was the team’s big signing prior to the 2004 season — they even displaced a young, cannon-armed shortstop named Jose Reyes to second base to make room. What the Mets got was an overpaid, oft-injured utility player who never hit higher than .272 and was eventually traded for a third-string catcher.
