Wow interesting. As for the three in a row, my take is that 1) ESPN knows the Mets won’t really be a candidate after the All-Star break, so get them on early, and 2) Star power matters more to them than playoffs (and Beltran should be back for, at least, the Yankees, god willing). They also know Mets @ Phillies is usually good TV — they can hope for a Johan-Halladay duel, or likely get a 10-8 slugfest in that bandbox. Plus, the fans will be at their raunchiest. And hey, whaddya know? If Johan starts Opening Day and the Mets go with five starters from the get-go, he lines up to pitch that Sunday.
