Hmmm, I’m starting to think people actually read this darn thing. Â I have heard from Anthony!
HA! As an avid reader with a decent Mets jersey collection, I suspected I’d someday be one of the many backs you’ve featured on the site. A face shot though — now THAT’S a high honor! I’ll have you know that I purchased that very jersey last year in the Mets team shop. My long term goal is to own at least 1 of every on-field jersey design the Mets have ever worm (BP’s yes, but no “fashion” jerseys) and at the time, the snow white “Los Mets” design was high on the “want” list. Lo and behold 1 faithful day last summer when I walked into the rotunda’s team store and see game used jerseys from bench players, coaches, ball boys and oh yeah…Scott Schoenweis and Aaron Heilman! Yes, game used jerseys from the Met killers themselves!
Anyone who knows me knows that those 2 are on my mets pitching (bleep) list along with Armando Benitez and Mel Rojas, however I felt absolutely drawn to the jerseys of those 2 players. Although I had definitely considered making my purchase based on who I despised more and who would get the bigger reaction from people when I wear it around, it became something a bit more symbolic than that. To me, they encapsulate the essence of this current era of our fandom. They both had potential and showed great promise at times, yet ultimately stumbled time and time again. The fact that Mets fans who saw them will likely never forget them (for better or worse) is a testament to how much we really care about our team. The jersey would be less something to fill in my collection, but a living embodiment of the heartbreak we have live and breath as fans of the team…and the Scho jersey didn’t fit me.
Let’s hear it for Anthony for being a good sport. Â I don’t think any of y’all will top this combination – maybe an alt Mercury Mets with like “Shinjo” could beat it. Â I bought myself the green Player’s Choice Murphy jersey so I can have a shot at winning 20 years from now.
Twitter tells me Jason Bay to the DL, Adam Rubin is being annoying tweeting black cap stats (more on that next post…not the Rubin part)….and me and this pizza are gearing up for Howie. Â I’ll post the Bay stuff when the Mets send it out.
Seriously, that we’re taking pics of these things and then hearing form the people who wear them…amazing, amazing, amazing, and what a great use of the internet. Â This and my “there’s a big dragonfly at Citi Field” tweet from the other night are what the scientists had in mind when they invented the ‘net.
You win the internet, Shannon. Bravo.
Now ask him why he was sneaking down ,because otherwise I’m sure we’d have noticed him before the 13th inning! 😉
