Good morning Mets fans,
As we all head back to work, school, winter, depression – I thought I’d start with an easy one.
Hi Shannon,
A couple of days ago I went to look at the Mets promotional schedule to see if any additional giveaways were added for the rest of the season. I already have 6 games left the rest of the season and was open to the idea of adding an additional game or 2 (when I still had hope.) Now I could swear that previously there was a sunglasses giveaway on Sept 12th vs the Phillies. It was added to the schedule sometime in July, I believe. But I noticed that the sunglasses giveaway was now no longer on the schedule.
Have you heard anything about this? I don’t recall the Mets ever removing a giveaway from the schedule. I was thinking of contacting the Mets and asking someone about it. But I thought I’d run it by you to see if you had heard anything about it.

I don’t know. @formerdirtdart keeps a close eye on that calendar – Walt, any idea? Anyone else?
I do think that September would be an odd time for a sunglasses promotion – seems more a “June 12th” type promotion.
I do find it odd that all that’s left on the promotions page is Fleece Blanket night and Hispanic Heritage Night.
The think the prevailing opinion is the sponsor must’ve backed out or something.
It’s being replaced by paper bag day. So you can still go ro ten game but hide your face out of shame.
There was a sunglasses day scheduled, and I was going to comment that. again, it seemed the traveling Phillies fans were going to make out with the sweet Mets loot, and probably then offload it at outrageous prices, to die-hard out of town Mets fans, on Ebay.
(Or desecrate the Mets items in some satanic ritual to ensure the Phillies success. So, the loss of an additional Mets totem may be a good thing)
I can’t recall the sponsors, and the Mets never updated the promotions listing with a photo.
The future is no longer bright. Therefore, it no longer requires shades.
In 1997, the Mets had a Sunglasses Day whose sponsor was American Sports Classics, a rival to Classic Sports Network, the channel that would be bought up by ESPN and turned into ESPN Classic. ASC was planned by SportsChannel but wasn’t yet on the air. It never got off the ground. I couldn’t say for sure, but it may have been the only Mets promotion that wound up sponsored by an ultimately nonexistent entity.
But the sunglasses existed and were handed out — unlike 2010, when the nonexistent entities include both Sunglasses Day and a pennant race.
