From Mets Gazette:
My choice is Lee Mazzilli. Although he sports a .480 career winning percentage as a manager (129 wins to 140 losses from 2004 to August 2005) I think he got a raw deal with the Orioles and was dismissed far too impetuously. Plus, I don’t put much weight in a manager’s first few years managing as he is learning the ropes himself. I seem to recall some other guy from Brooklyn who managed the Mets and ended his run with a .405 winning percentage after five seasons. He’s the same guy who is now a lock for Cooperstown.
Remember when I was the only lunatic who wanted Lee to replace Willie? This is two votes-for-Lee in a week.
I love Lee but the name means nothing to anyone under 40….but as we learned earlier this year even the name Doc Gooden means nothing to anyone under 30, so I’m not sure Wally Backman will.
I have been talking to people at work. Yankees fans are even saying Mazzilli would be a great fit for the mets.
