The Mets upgraded Alison’s tickets

Alison sent me this story. It’s a cool one:

First, I love The Mets Police. I stumbled upon it last year when I was looking at why they were wearing those old throwback jerseys last August and have been reading every day since then and love what you write (I also strongly hate the black uniforms also and have been so happy that they’ve worn the “cream” pinstripes the past few games).

Now, for a little background. I’ve been a Mets fan since I was really little and my favorite video when I was five was the 1990 New York Mets and I would watch it almost every day to the point where I had it memorized. I’ve stuck by the Mets through the good and (mostly) bad even when all my friends were Yankees fans and they were winning championships and were giving me such a hard time because I was a Mets fan. The past few years have been discouraging to the point where I just start laughing every day when the new drama or issues or whatever happens. They’ve become a punch line for me but I’m still a fan. I haven’t watched the games as intently as I used to and I’ve mostly followed them lately through the blogs, newspapers, and WFAN. I’m way down on Omar and the ownership and think that major changes need to be made in order to turn the ship around and bring the Mets back to where they were in 2006 (and even 2007) and even after changes are made I know it’s going to be a few years before things can be good again.

Now, onto what this email is actually about. I’ve gone to more games (and given them more money) than I should have this season (five games including the Daily News sweepstakes tickets that I won). Last night, I went to the game with two of my friends. I knew the tickets were going to be really (or relatively) cheap so that’s why I picked out the game. I waited to buy them at the stadium because I didn’t want to pay $5 or $6 in service charges for $11 seats. I picked out my section (524 for $11) and the ticket guy did his computer thing and I signed the credit card receipt and then he said, “We’ve upgraded you’re seats. Thanks for your patronage and coming out to the game.” And I was like okay, cool, whatever I guess they didn’t have seats in that section (I don’t know why I thought that because the upper decks were mostly empty). So I look at the tickets, Section 122, 14th row. Needless to say, my friends and I were ecstatic. I’ve sat that close (and actually closer at Tropicana Field) but I paid the full ticket price. We got $87 tickets for $11, it was [bleeping] awesome.

Our upgrade caught me completely off guard. I haven’t heard anyone mention it on the blogs or on WFAN. I’m never going to give up on my Mets and I’m not sure how frequently they upgrade seats like this but I definitely thought it was a nice gesture and really made my night/season (plus they won last night too). If it’s more than a rare occurrence I hope it’s the Wilpons and management trying to build good will with the fan base. Like I said, I’m never giving up on my Mets and I’ll always go to at least a game or two a season (usually the cheapest with good seats or better ones in the worst seats) but to know that they’re doing things like this, it’s kinda awesome. I have to give them credit. Sometimes I really don’t think ownership and management listen to the fans but upgrading our seats was a really awesome thing and I’m glad they’re trying to do nice things for the fans.

Keep up the awesome work!

Alison

  1. Funny how no one commented on this but if the ever complaining Mets fanbase perceived that the Mets/Wilpons did something to make $, they’d be all over it.
