No I’m not saying to release Ollie an hour before game 162 but what was the point in letting him sit on the roster for three months?
Clearly there is NO situation in which they would use him. Do they have some fantasy that he will somehow be a useful part in 2011?
Ollie was booed on Opening Day in 2010! Even if he no-hits the spring he will be booed on Opening Day in 2011.
He will be booed mercilessly when he throws ball one.
Even if he takes a no-no into the 7th he will be booed when he gives up a hit.
I can’t think of any reason to make him sit there all season other than to be jerks to get back at him for not going to AAA. Do they plan on going with a 24 man roster again next season? That’ll teach him.
What am I missing Mets fans?
…
I am making my major league debut today in left field. You may miss it because of the NFL.
Here is what your missing. Wilpon is hoping that whoever replaces Omar can get something for him…
He’s wrong about that but thats the only reason to keep him right now.
Only other thing would be he doesn’t have the 12 Mil to give ollie to release him right now (If we release him we probably have to pay the remainder right away) and he is waiting until the offseason when he will have a better cash flow….
Other than those two, thats it!
Unless there is some clause in the contract that we don’t know about and it states Ollie gets even more money than what is owed to him if released early (and we would have heard about that by now if it was there), There was absoloutly no reason other than the two I stated to keep him.
There was a point to cutting Ollie back in July. The Mets didn’t do it.
Now, there’s no reason not to bring him into spring training to see if there’s any chance he can contribute in 2011.
