Grote was my mother’s favorite player. One day at the Dream Game in Phoenix (1984), I was getting autographs after it, and I asked Ed Kranepool, where Grote was, he was my mom’s favorite player, and wanted it for her. Kranepool’s response was your mom has horrible taste…very funny stuff.
