John Franco, John Olerud, Al Leiter, Robbie Alomar, Carlos Baerga: Hall of Famers?

There are several ex-Mets on this year’s HOF ballot.

The full ballot: Roberto Alomar, Carlos Baerga, Jeff Bagwell, Harold Baines, Bert Blyleven, Bret Boone, Kevin Brown, John Franco, Juan Gonzalez, Marquis Grissom, Lenny Harris, Bobby Higginson, Charles Johnson, Barry Larkin, Al Leiter, Edgar Martinez, Tino Martinez, Don Mattingly, Fred McGriff, Mark McGwire, Raul Mondesi, Jack Morris, Dale Murphy, John Olerud, Rafael Palmeiro, Dave Parker, Tim Raines, Kirk Rueter, Benito Santiago, Lee Smith, B.J. Surhoff, Alan Trammell and Larry Walker.

My quick take…the only possible is Alomar who was always considered a no-brainer HOFer until he came to Flushing.

Olerud makes the Hall of Garvey (where I put very nice players) with his 2239 hits.

Franco played a long time but was never lights out so no.   Probably makes the Hall of Garvey.

Leiter won 162 games, no.

Baerga’s stats surprised me at how unimpressive they were when I looked back.

  1. Lenny Harris gets my vote simply because he gave me some tips while I was in the batting cage at Shea.
