The Mets survey asked folks to name five words that describe the Mets. I asked for your submissions. Here’s a few for starters:
George: frustrating, predictable, mismanaged, remote, depressing
RCR: Disgruntled, Underacheiving, Overpaid, Uninspired, Unorganized
however Maggie went the haiku* route (I know a haiku isn’t 5 words but whatever) with one..
Maggie: second-class citizens to the Yankees
Ouch.
Mags, let it go. The frontrunners will be back as soon as Sandy & Colactus clear out Omar’s payroll. Even if the Mets run off 25 straight titles we’ll still have to listen to Yankees fans.

I do need help. I’m still scarred from Castillo’s dropped ball. Help.
1 – Leaderless
2 – Underachievers
3 – Distracted
4 – Expensive
5 – Questionable
Explanation
1 – Beltran is by default our leader. Compare him to Rollins or Chipper Jones and tell me how he stacks up. Wright doesn’t even want the job!
2 – Pelfrey, Reyes, Bay and at times Wright underachieved at the plate. beltran could go here too but he was hurt and it took two months to find himself while dealing with a brace.
3 – Last year it was all about Manuel and Omar, They didn’t Hit? Blame Manuel! Not Hitting? Blame Omar, Ollie Perez?, John Maine?, K-Rod?, Santana’s Rape?, they answered more questions about stuff that happened off the field than they were asked about themselves striking out by swinging at ball four!
Throw in Tejada vs castillo and Francouer vs anyone not named Francouer who got a start, and how could they ever focus on the game they were in?
4 – 130 Million Dollar sub .500 roster?
5 – Will Reyes Hit and stay healthy? Will Beltran? If not will Wright hit like Wright usually does? Will the REAL Jason Bay step up to the plate? Will RA Dickey continue to baffle hitters throwing nothing but butterflys or was last year a fluke? Will Pelfrey’s coin flip yet again? Will Niese be as good as he showed? Will Thole and Davis hit enough to remain starters? So many questions I find it odd that people want to throw money at a team that is basically 50/50 on being a fix up or a tear down!
I can’t disagree with those five. Sadly, they are apt. But let me give you the five things which contribute to me being a Mets fan:
1. Brooklyn – connection to the Dodgers and my favorite borough
2. Mays – connection to my favorite all time baseball player, and the NY Giants
3. DH – as in no DH, real baseball
4. underdog – I don’t care whether you’re talking about the Yanks or the Mets, no one’s fun to root for if they’re not an underdog. Even the 86 Mets, a favorite to win all year, had to battle back and made themselves lovable in the process.
5. citi field – it is now the best place to watch baseball in NY.
Not as clever or nice as your list, but this sums up my relation to the Mets.
