Olney: Mets discussing releasing Castillo

Interesting tidbit in Olney’s column today regarding the Mets discussing releasing Castillo.

One thing about the word “discussing” – I would imagine the braintrust discusses everything. Even “Should we trade Wright? No that’s absurd!” is a short discussion.

Buster also suggests we should not be surprised if they release Ollie.

  1. Alderson, et al, should release Castillo and Perez just as a p.r. move. For one thing, it shows the fans they mean business. For another, “We’ve got $12 million* caught up in guys no longer even on the roster” would hammer home the extent of the mess they inherited.

*figure does not include payments to 2-tour outfielders from the 1990s
