The FDNY invited the Mets to their training facility on Randall’s Island today. Fire Commissioner Sal Cassano was there to meet R.A. Dickey, Mike Pelfrey, Bobby Parnell, Dillon Gee, and Jeff Wilpon.
The players and Jeff Wilpon did such training as extinguishing a room, being lowered from a roof with safety line, and extinguish a car fire.
Then after all the training the Mets players met with some of the fire fighters that were training and gave out autographs to them.
For what it’s worth, firemen are true soldiers. They go into battle, put their lives on the line. Except it isn’t a battle of politics or conquest, it’s a war to save lives.
Not to be a wet blanket, but if I were an owner, I don’t think I’d allow this. Suppose something goes wrong while they’re lowering Pelf down the side of the building and he messes his leg up. I respect the sentiment, but….
I saw a similar thought on Calcaterra’s NBC Sports page.
