How I Met The Mercury Mets (and the 1987 Mets)

Two episodes of How I Met the Mets for you this week.

The first is a debut of “1987”. This one is a traditional episode – and I think this episode has come out the best so far. A look back at a season that just wasn’t meant to be.

Before we get to the second one, let me warm up the newbies with some of the better minisodes from the series.

A look back at the last game at Shea:

A look back at the Subway Series:

These are “proof of concept” videos for something I’d like to see worked into a real series on SNY. Kinda like Mets Yearbook, but from the vantage point of a fan. I also think for the series to work it needs to be real and embrace the heartbreak that goes into being a Mets fan. Unlike uptown, not everyone gets their number retired, not every season ends in a pennant, and sometimes the Mets even lose a game. Imagine these with real assets, better editing, Howie Rose doing the voiceover, and player interviews interspersed.

Now that you’ve bought in – here’s some weirdness for you.

I watched Total Recall on Saturday night (great film, no need to remake it), and when I went out Sunday to do Actual Athletics my mind starting wondering…mix in a long weekend, some extra free-time and I thought I’d have some fun with my own concept…this one is so bizarre I was afraid to post it on its own.

Interestingly there are about 4 pictures of the Mercury Mets on the entire internet, and I used them all in this video.

If you dig these (OK maybe not the last one) and would like to see something like this during rain delays then click like and share and embed them around the internet. If you like when Bob Ojeda says things like “we’ll be back after Beer Money” then don’t.
