IIRC, it was on picture day 10 years ago when the black doo-doo really hit the fan. The team wore their new black-crowned caps with the pinless unis (with a new drop-shadow on the jersey crest), and John Franco wondered aloud why their shoes, belts, and socks (all blue) didn’t match the caps. Black sleeves and socks made their debut some time later, the Fredenstein uniforms were born, and by 1999, we had a “midnight” logo and a dropshadow on the pins as well.
Darn you, John Franco!
