In this article Bob Raissman of the News says many of the things we’ve all been saying about MSG’s Summer of 86 series.
He does mention that licensing clips from MLB could cost a hundred grand.
So back to How I Met the Mets. I think I’ve shown there are ways to approach the storytelling even without spending $100,000 on video. I maintain that if you gave me 10 minutes with Keith Hernandez, whatever archives the Mets actually own (like the Mets Yearbook or perhaps other promotional films, or stuff like “Professor Reyes”) and a real camera guy to film my kid walking around in a retro Mets jersey, there could be a decent show.
I sure as he’ll could knock out a “Citi Field Opens” episode by shooting new stuff and just having David Wright pretend he’s two years younger while signing an autograph for the kid.
I’m not out to produce a tv series. I just wanna watch.
Scroll down the blog, I posted the teaser for HIMTM:1986 and reposted a few others last night.
MSG is giving us the chance to express loud and clear what we want SNY filler programming to be. Spread the word! Share those HIMTM clips (especially on Facebook).
SNY has to pay the same licensing fees to MLB as well. That’s why there is a very limited amount of old Mets footage on SNY.
Raissman has a axe to grind, and he’s doing it for his bosses at SNY and the Daily News, both who have a financial interest in the Mets. Lame piece if you ask me.
He’s never taken apart SNY’s very lame non-live-game schedule.
I don’t think there is a conspiracy, I think he is seeing what we all see…a show we were excited about but are bored by.
