Black has now ruined the Franchise Mets caps too

Must black ruin everything?

You think you look good in your John Franco jersey? I get it.

You like the hybrid cap because you’re an aficionado of purple? I get it

But here’s some horrible news from Sparks about the Franchise caps (the nice blue and orange kind, looks a tad worn, and has been my go-to cap for the last few years)

I bought a new since, as I’ve mentioned on the site, my dog chewed up my last one. It came today. Check out the logo on the back.

Yes, even the Blue Cap Army’s weapon of choice has now been infected with the Black Plague.

For reference, I’ve also attached a pic of the apparently tasty-to-canines one I bought in 2009.

Here is the 2009 back:

And the dreaded 2011 version. Why the f%$# did they add this black logo to a great cap?

I know that I am supposed to believe “black sells” but is this crappy black Mets script on the back really a difference maker?

By the way as of 7:30 on Friday night, the blue cap was still the #2 seller on the Mets shop. There was no black in the Top 5. Hey Mets, it’s your website not mine…what’s selling? You tell me. Did I mention the 50th anniversary is coming?

I will have to protect my Franchise cap (no-black edition) since my new dog has already chewed two hats this year.

  1. Interesting. I’ve got the 2009 cap as well, but a better trained dog. Looks like if he had gone to the MLB Mets shop online, if he had wanted one like he got but with an American flag it would be like the one he has except with an American flag (http://shop.mlb.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2672385&cp=1452359.1452831.3309849). If he wanted a cap like the one he has, but with a Dominican, Korean or Puerto Rican flag it would have the orange script instead of the black.

  2. Unti I started reading your site, I never knew black was almost on everything. Is nothing sacred?
