31,696: a bad attendance number for Mets or no?

Hoo boy am I late off the draw this morning.  Some times it’s nice to sleep in.

31.696 were in attendance last night.

In 2010, Game 2 – a Wednesday game drew 38,863.  The first Saturday game, also against the Nats, drew 33,044.

While at first glance I found the 31,696 number to be low – when I compare it to the 33k number it doesn’t seem so awful.

I had a great time at the game with my son and took a ton of pictures which I will poke away at as the days go by.  Here’s a cool thing you’ll find as you exit the museum and enter the store.  This figure moves and swings the bat.

If you’re the Mets and you don’t want to catch grief, maybe you should place the Dodgers stuff a little further away from the border of the museum and the store…

And speaking of the Brooklyn Dodgers – more on that tomorrow…what is the possible justification for selling Koufax jerseys?

  1. Actually I would say that is very good. You would alos have to consider what the weather was last year.

    Considering it was lousy and cold and it was the stinky Nationals I would say that was a good crowd.

    Hopefully they win today and get some MO going. Lets see what the crowds for the rockies look like during the week!

    Right now you can buy $4.OO tix on Stub Hub!

  2. No way that’s 31K from tha pic. Sold but definitely not in attendance

    I’d buy Koufax before I’d buy Beltran. Least I know Sandy will be a Dodger in 2012

  3. Two justifications that Mets presently sell Koufax jerseys:
    1. Koufax was born and raised in Brooklyn (in addition to being a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers before they moved to LA, although his good years were on the West Coast);
    2. Koufax is best buds with owner Wilpon (and he goes to Mets Spring Training every year to assist with the pitchers).

  4. if that’s 31,000+, then that stadium hides them well. if Shea had that percentage of empty seats, i’d believe 31K, but Citi is a lot fewer seats.

  5. I’ve said it before….The Dodgers stuff sells, thats why they continue to carry it.

    1. But, in an argument for equal time, do they sell NY Giants stuff too? Various caps and perhaps a #24 Willie Mays jersey or #3 Bill Terry (with no names, of course)?
