Did anyone hear Wayne Hagin call the interference play on Saturday night?

I left Siberia Field during the bottom of the 7th inning on Saturday* and was able to catch some of the game in the car.  Once again, it was a Howie-less booth, and as I mentioned in the spring, a Howie-less booth exposes some flaws.

Wayne’s call of the interference play was beyond bad.  Never mind that it may have been a confusing call (was it?  I only have Wayne’s description) but before the umpires ruled anything I had no idea what was happening.   A ball was in play, runners were running somewhere, they some sort of confusion.  I had zero idea what was happening and who was involved – and that was before the umpires even called anything.

I’m not doing this justice – which means I can work a booth with Howie – did anyone hear it?  Can you help me put words to what I heard?  Do Mets Audio Highlights exist anywhere?

I had a full weekend as SuperDaddy – I’m behind on some emails, thanks for sending in and I will catch up as soon as I can.  Thanks!

  1. I left you a note earlier on facebook about it (one of your earlier posts). the Washington radio call seemed to be right on top of it, and even Gary Cohen was initially confused as it happened.

  2. I was at the game, so I didn’t hear that call. But, he’s obviously abysmal. Among many other things, he needs to stop pronouncing Capuano “Cap-ee-ah-no.”

  3. I didn’t, but the Nats home tv network, MASN, is about as bad as it gets, for an on air team; they’re turrible.

  4. Wayne Hagin is the bane of my existence. I thought the guy who preceded him — Tom McCarthy? forgot his name — was bad, but he is even worse. Sometimes I imagine I hear Howie Rose seething in the booth (along with us listeners at home) as Hagin exercises his gift for stating the obvious. And how ’bout when the Rockies are in town and Hagin gets to show off all his special Rockies knowledge? Boy, that’s always a treat. Anybody know anything about his contract status? Is there some decades-long personal feud between Ed “Eddie” Coleman and Howie Rose that prevents them working together? Did Howie steal Eddie’s Schwinn from the Shea parking lot one afternoon in ’67? I mean, come on, those two guys are made for each other, and it would be a nice thing for the fans not to have to listen to this boneheaded yokel (Hagin) any more.

  5. when the mets played the giants last week did he beat every one over the head with his giants knowledge stick?
