New York Mets to host family of slain police officer | democratandchronicle.com

There’s nothing “nice” about a story that starts with a police officer being killed, but I thought you’d find this one interesting.  The Mets have invited the family of Det. John Falcone out to Citi Field.  If you click through the link you’ll see David Wright made the call.

The Mets don’t make a big deal out of such things since they aren’t doing it for the press..but since I give the franchise lots of guff I like when I can shed light on things like this…again if such a thing can be “good” when starting from such a bad place.

On Feb. 18, Falcone was shot while he tried to disarm a Catskill man, 27-year-old Lee Welch, who had just shot and killed his wife, Jessica, in a parking lot near the Poughkeepsie Railroad Station. He was the first police officer in the city’s history to be shot and killed in the line of duty.

Saturday’s invitation to Citi Field in Flushing came after Falcone’s cousin, Robert Frank, of Middletown, wrote to the Mets about the shooting and how Falcone was a huge fan.
