SELECT THE CONTRACT OF LHP MIKE O’CONNOR FROM BUFFALO

FLUSHING, N.Y., May 4, 2011 – The New York Mets today announced the team has placed righthanded pitcher Pedro Beato on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to May 2, with tendinitis in his right elbow, and has selected the contract of lefthanded pitcher Mike O’Connor from Buffalo (AAA) of the International League. O’Connor will wear #50 and will be available for tonight’s game.

Beato, 24, is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA (zero earned runs/17.0 innings) in 11 games this season. The 6-4, 220-pound rookie has allowed nine hits and four unearned runs, walked three and struck out 10. His streak of 17.0 innings without an earned run to start his career is the second-longest in Mets history. Only Jack DiLauro in 1969 compiled a longer run (17.2 innings).

O’Connor, 30, was 2-1 with a 3.31 ERA (six earned runs/16.1 innings) in 10 games with the Bisons this season. He left the Bisons with an 8.1-inning scoreless streak, dating to April 23 vs. Lehigh Valley. The 6-3, 187-pound native of Dallas, TX last pitched in the majors in 2008 with Washington, where he went 1-1 with a 13.00 ERA (13 earned runs/9.0 innings). O’Connor owns a 4-9 career record and a lifetime ERA of 5.45 (74 earned runs/114.0 innings) in 26 major league games, 21 starts.
