If I’m understanding this right….
K-Rod had* the Brewers on his no-trade list.
K-Rod’s folks forgot to file the paperwork 2.5 years ago
Sandy made a move before Boras could catch the mistake.
Now it’s an even smarter move.
I don’t understand these WFAN callers who don’t like the deal.
Also, as bad as the vesting would have been for the Mets, you can’t blame K-Rod for either making the deal or wanting it to kick in.
Let’s also remember the 30 blown saves when Wagner went down for the year…the Mets needed a closer.
Good stuff in The News
I think the issue of liking a trade is always going to be polarizing to fans. The Mets have been a laughing stock joke for the most part since late September of 2007. For once recently, with even seemingly ridiculous odds and injuries, this team was able to be appreciated again be the fanbase. So to see the closer get traded feels disingenuous to some. In the grand scheme of course moving a hideous and badly awarded option is a great move, but there is more to it than that. Will those dollars be reinvested, and frankly I am not talking about Jose Reyes. In my opinion the Mets should have been able to sign Reyes with or without the KRod option. If the front office and ownership contended otherwise the ownership should get out because they are at best misleading at worst awful.
The real upside of this trade will be seen some time between November to Feburary 2011-12.
Sandy is the father of Moneyball, soon to be a major motion picture starring Brad Pitt as Billy Beane…I don’t see a Sandy character…maybe he has a different name in the movie.
Anyway, Sandy has analyzed the situation and decided that the net present value of Frankie Rodriguez is less than what the Mets have to pay him. Moneyball makes perfect sense…if you do the analysis correctly and are using the right metrics. Being the eternal optimist, I have decided to trust Sandy…for now. I’ll give him 2 years, then be ready to throw him under the bus.
