Maybe that fat guy over at Mets Police isn’t such an idiot.
Long time readers know I like throwing around the phrase “Future Hall of Famer Jon Niese” and have been since he came up. The kid has stuff and (semi-humbly) I saw it from the start. If you read newspapers and blogs today you will see the rest of the world has caught up. Welcome.
Meanwhile, Dan Murphy, the man you can’t keep down, is only 24 hits away from the magic 300 hit mark. Even ESPN NY is with 28 now.
Daniel Murphy Watch
Murphy continues to sizzle, his batting average now up to .312. Murphy had his ninth game this season with at least three hits on Saturday, second-most on the team this season. Five of those have come in his last 19 games. He had only four in the first 70 games of the season. With a hit on Saturday, he’s also raised his batting average with runners in scoring position this season to .349.

But it’s Murphy. When the regulars come back the Mets will bury him somewhere. I can’t explain it, but it will happen. Gotta get Justin Turner his at bats I guess.
With 2 more starters of Niese’s caliber, the Mets become contenders. Without, they don’t. Most anything else they do between now and Opening Day 2012 is just a secondary contributing factor.
“Niese’s caliber” I like it
