Media Goon was reading the newspaper and saw this. The orange shaded areas are “strong Mets” areas. What, you see mostly blue?
Yep. Been trying to alert Jeff to this for 4+ years now. An entire generation lost to Jeter and to some fool-hardy marketing a few years back that left some of the core feeling unwanted. Don’t lose your 40 year olds and their children.
Next week’s kids-for-free is a great start.
Ironic that when the Mets were laughingstocks in the late 1970s, the solution was to sell the team…to Doubleday and Wilpon. They cleaned house and it worked. Maybe that Doubleday guy was not so bad…after he left, in 2002, things have been ponderous. I have close to 40 years invested in this team and I have never felt less connected as I do now. Most of the time I spend thinking about the Mets is of 1969 and 1986, and I don’t even remember 1969 firsthand. In retrospect, the 1986 team is not to be too revered in light of their on-going off the field issues. If I am having a problem connecting with this current situation, I imagine a kid deciding what team to root for almost has to go the other way. It’s a shame because I think we have a good GM, manager and some young talent now, but not enough to really contend and I don’t see any free agents coming here or minor leaguers to get excited about.
There is a major dis-connect with this team..crazy uniforms, new ballpark that has many problems, not winning anything since 2000, bankrupt ownership, super expensive everything to see a game. New kids coming up today mostly gravitate toward the yankees and old timers like me feel the owners don’t really care about us and the history of the team.
