Are these hints about next years Mets jerseys?

Steve is a first-time/long-time who dropped me a note yesterday saying, ” I have noticed all the authentic jerseys (except the black alternate) are on clearance at the Mets.com/shop. I suspect that this means the black is going to be dropped from all three other jerseys. I’m even more excited now.”

Let’s take a look..(either click on them or trust me)

Hmmm…..

White pinless.  Discounted.

Cream retros. Discounted.

Black. Regular Price.

Los Mets. Regular Price.

Here’s one man’s speculation on what’s coming.  Total speculation, I know nothing at all and I’m just a fat dummy from the upper deck….but it’s fun to guess.

I imagine we’ll see “1962” Pinstripes as the primary in 2012.  I think the pinless will stay in rotation in the opposite ratios we see now (maybe Kevin Kierst lays out the pinless once a week or so.)  However both the 1962’s and the pinless will be dropshadowless. (Thus the Mets get me to buy two new jerseys. Well played David, well played.)

I bet we see black but it gets banished to the road.  Maybe we’ll see nice dropshadowless road jerseys…thus Dave gets another $100 out of me (well played Dave, well played.)

And maybe we’ll also get blues…and Dave gets yet another $100 out of me.  (Imaginary Dave laughs at the sky how he has beat me at my own game)

Looking ahead to 2013…say there’s an All Star Game.  I’ll have to get a Mets themed National jersey. That’s ANOTHER $100.  And of course there will be all star patches…so maybe I buy one more something with an All Star patch on it.  Another $100.

What this means to you:

Probably not a bad idea to grab a cream retro so in 10 years you’re not wishing you had a cream retro. Grab a Beltran or a just-in-case Reyes so you’re kinda interesting in 10 years….or go wacky and get like a Thole.

Believe me the 10 years thing is real.  How many of you secretly wish you had a Mercury Mets jersey or even a swoosh…or one of those swoosh roads.  Things get interesting with age.  I’d kill for a 1978 road Mazzilli pullover.

  1. Don’t forget the jerseys with the 50th anniversary patch as well….I need a second job to pay for these jerseys.

  2. Aren’t we all jumping the gun? They admittedly missed the deadline for there to be changes in the standard jerseys in 2012. I think the best we hope for is they wear them occasionally as throwbacks…unless they don’t need MLB approval to just remove the dropshadows…that would help immensely.

In an ideal world, with no MLB restrictions, for next year I would have home pinstripe with front numbers (names ok), home blue alt, home 1986 throwback. For the road, just drop the shadow and add a blue alt.

As for names, maybe as a one year throwback, have no names on back. But it seems we tried that in 1999 and put the names back…the Dodgers tried it a few years ago and put the names back…once you have names, it looks too bare without them.

    1. They did not miss the the deadline for the ’62 themed uniforms. They missed the deadline to include a blue jersey as an official alternate next year.
You need to go read the article again, or maybe the first time.

      1. The article was written mainly about the blue uniforms and snuck in the part of the 1962 unis…they may have made the deadline for the 1962 package, but definitely missed on the blue. Either way I’m happy.

    2. Numbers without names only look bare if you don’t make the numbers larger than they are with names or else move them higher on the jersey back. Giants do a good job of home jerseys without names.

      1. I have no problem with no names on home jerseys, but, I think it’s OK to keep names on road jerseys. Sort of a courtesy to the home team’s fans, very presumptuous to expect them to know Mets’ players simply by their number.

        1. Absolutely agree with you regarding the Road jerseys. In fact, I believe the National League mandates NOB of Road jerseys.

  3. As long as they ditch the dropshadow on everything, I’d be happy. I’d love to see the blue hat on the r

  4. Looked further on the site. Looks like BP jerseys haven’t been discounted either. So it looks like the black will continue, at least next year, on at least the black alt and the BP jerseys in 2012.

    1. ummm..why would you expect the BP jerseys to change? BP wear is a league thing, changes every few years, on phases. Hats first, then jerseys follow the next year. This is the first year in the current BP jersey.

Also, they specifically said there was no plans to get rid of the black jerseys, thus, black stays an official Mets color.

      1. Points taken. I, for one, am glad they’re keeping black as an official color (although I know there are many folks out there that disagree with me on this point) and hope they continue to do so beyond 2012.

  5. Black will stay as a color and they will likely see which sells more…blue or black. At first, being new, blue will crush black…then we’ll see.

    1. I bought one in 1995, only to be horrified when I saw them screw it up with the black…if they ditch the black on it, I have an authentic jersey again.

      1. I should have bought one in ’97; I waited until ’98 and got the drop-shadow version, and a size too small to boot, but it does have the little “NY” on the sleeve patch. If the shadowless version appears next year I will buy one.
