I’m an avid reader of the Mets police blog. This is my dads sweatshirt that was bought for him 3-5 years ago. I think it’s weird that Nike would produce this when everything the Mets sell has a drop shadow.
Here’s to hoping no black in 2012.

I think I found evidence that the Mets were still wearing blue caps with the road grays at the beginning of 1998, before the then-new black/blue “alternate” cap became the de facto road cap.
Here’s a picture of John Olerud in road grays with a blue helmet and undersleeves. Note that there is no Jackie Robinson 50 patch on the right sleeve, so this can’t be from 1997. Since Olerud joined the Mets in ’97, this can’t be from ’95 or ’96. It can only be ’98. It’s a little tough to tell if there’s a drop-shadow on the lettering, but this appears to show that the Mets still wore blue caps with the road grays at the beginning of the ’98 season, only to make the hybrid cap the de facto (and exclusive) road cap at some point along the way.
You’re absoultely correct, following the Mets that year in ’98, they wore the blue caps on the road sporadically, only to phase them out by the end of the season.
The last road game I must seen the Mets wear the blue caps was in St Louis, not sure it was in July or August. All I remember was that McGwire parked a HR on his way to his ‘title’ and Piazza hit an absolute bomb into the upper deck of Busch Stadium.
After that, I don’t think I remember seeing the blue caps again until the Yankee Stadium farewell in 2008 when they won 15-2 on Carlos Delgado’s day of rampage.
