Mets season winding down. Anyone still here?

Things are really winding down in Metsville. There really hasn’t been anything to read since the Einhorn flurry, and honestly I have been kind of bored since Murphy got hurt.

There’s fewer people tweeting during games, and I suspect that will get worse.

So, here’s just a random collection of thoughts and stuff:

That website that makes good points about the Mets’ radio booth is back at it again after a flurry of inactivity. 3 posts in 4 days.

Mets Police does not seek to get people fired. If people get offered their dream job to broadcast for another city, that’s cool.

I’m already bored with tales of Piazza and Franco and the home run that I find overrated although I know I’m really in the minority. Oh, and the great Bobby V should never have let the team get in the hole they were trying to dig out of. There’s that pesky April math again.

I hope the Mets bitched about Sunday’s game-time. The Jets play at 8 and the Giants at 4 so there was a nice opportunity to have some daylight on the 9/11 ceremonies. Thanks ESPN.

I absolutely love how every Mets Yearbook goes out of it’s way to mention Banner Day.

Would be nice if SNY could make some “new” Mets Yearbooks. Produce them in a retro-happy style and let Howie voice them. Like go all in and do “Mets Yearbook 1993” and talk about how great the club will be. Is it possible there are rights issues on getting video?

After this season even I’m ok with taking a break on the 86ers for a while.

My crystal ball shows Daniel Murphy as someone else’s opening day 3B and Duda in RF for the Mets.

Today my spidey-sense is picking up a surprising lack of interest in Reyes by other teams, allowing the Mets to re-sign him. Just a spidey sense.

Ok, Fred – things are boring. Please give us something to talk about.

  1. Reason why there isn’t any new Mets programming? SNY too cheap to pay rights fees to MLB for any library material e.g. non-SNY-produced Mets games, which is everything from 1962-2005. Also putting together a yearly wrap is very time and labor consuming – couple things SNY doesn’t seem to believe in, but YES, MSG and others of their type do. Producing daily shows with people yelling at each other is much cheaper and more disposable.

    1. YES has been around a fair bit longer. bit by bit the Mets and SNY get more and more games, and piece together these shows. it takes time and manhours. And money. They’re not gonna go all-in and just spend millions to buy every Mets game ever at once that sportschannel or whoever owns.

  2. I’m still here LOL. Yeah the season is winding down and so is Reyes’ BA. He’s flailing again so no batting title. Did anyone REALLY think he was going to win that? The anomaly was his start to the season. He’s awesome don’t get me wrong but the eventual slump was bound to come. Season recaps are time consuming? Well it’s better than watching the Boys of summer again. What else they gotta do at SNY? I mean really with Brooklyn Dodger vids? I love the old school Mets season recaps. I guess all I have left to look forward to is the new unis and how they’l mess that up!

  3. I’m still here. I feel sorry for all the people who got suckered into wasting that money to fill the Wilpon’s pockets this season.

  4. Almost gone!……this seaaon is dragging on……the games are meaningless and not even any pennant races…boring!

Football rules in FL!….The Mets, will be an after thought once NFL starts…..sorry!

Next stop spring traIning in five months!

  5. Why does the burden have to fall to SNY to produce season highlight videos? Let’s get after the Mets to start doing them again. And while they’re at it, they can start putting together some videos highlighting memorable players/moments/seasons for the 50th next year.

  6. Cheap stub hub tickets keeps me attending. Also I like seeing the young guys get a chance to play and checking them out for the remaining games.

  7. The Wilpons appreciate your blind trust and donations to their future generations. Without supporters like you, they would be nowhere.

That’s what I love about America. You can market a last place team, con your fans and basically put out 0 effort to improve yet because people love someone (Reyes, Wright) who couldn’t really care about them, they keep going.

    1. the Mets aren’t a last place team, have conned no one, and put in effort to improve.

I go because it’s fun. I enjoy baseball. Winning seasons are bonuses, not the only reason to attend. I’m not attending for some sense of pride I can rub in a coworkers face when my team wins.

If they did that it would be universally panned as shameless marketing. Fans would be on the radio and interwebs shouting for the Mets to spend less time making videos and focus on getting better players. The term “polished turd” would no doubt be thrown around. Face it Shan-Man, we live in a more cynical time now.
