It’s interesting to watch Mets fans and the bloggers go through the 5 stages of grief.
We had the Denial where of course Jose would be back.
Then the Anger if anyone suggested that it was completely unrealistic to expect Reyes and his friendly agent to work a deal that fits Fred’s budget.
This week we’ve seen the Bargaining…the 4 year deal type scenario.
Now we’re skipping ahead to Acceptance.
Will bringing back a frequently-injured player – who twice went on the DL last season – with a long-term, $100-plus million contract make the Mets substantially better?
No.
Rebuilding is a long, arduous process to which I don’t have all the answers. I do have the keys, however, and that is strong starting pitching and a bullpen, and defense. Those qualities, which the Mets’ don’t possess, will not be readily obtainable if a bulk of their resources are spent on a speed player with leg issues who will undoubtedly break down during his contract.
The only stage left is Depression.
…
Search your feelings. You know it to be true. Sorry folks.
