Stupid Randy from The Apple. I was stashing this one for tomorrow, but then Randy went and posted it – which means I have to play my card before Cerrone plays his card.
This is the game I play with all the off the beaten path links and was why I played the Kooz card last night instead of waiting three weeks until the News Dead Zone reappeared like I wanted to.
Whatever it is, I think we need to challenge our young people to finish well and finish a thing with honor. Whether its school work, or a hobby, or sports team or a project, if they can learn to finish well and finish with honor as children, then perhaps they will reap the benefits in their education, their careers, their marriages, and everything else in life that demands commitment and dedication. And if they can’t always finish, at least let them leave a thing with honor. I think of a man named Paul who, looking back on his life, could say; “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.”
Maybe I’m just getting old, but I would have held Jose Reyes in much higher esteem if he had played the full nine on the last day of the season, left it all out on the field, taking the risk and regardless of the outcome, walked away as a finisher, with honor and dignity.
Albert B. Kelly is mayor of Bridgeton.
I agree with you Mr. Mayor.
Instead our last memory of Jose in a Mets uniform is….him not being there.
He hit the nail on the head…the sad part of this whole debate is many in this country see no problem with what Reyes did…even though holding it up to standards of the past, ie. Ted Williams, it falls so far short of expectations.
Throw in the fact that it could have been his last game as a Met…and that many fans took a day off just to watch him play for the batting title…and it makes it even worse.
Steve they are going to send you to the Old Man Room with me.
I see some emails from you – and a good cap link – been swamped and coasting off Twohig’s work. Will catch up next time it rains on a wekeend.
