270 innings Colactus. 270 innings. (Murphy)

I like this..

With his work ethic, and the fact that when we play those exhibition games, Dan Murphy is going to go play second base. He’s going to play a lot of second base, because the only way he’s going to get better is to be out there. Even though they are exhibition games, I want him out there getting used to being in the middle of the infield.”

via Murphy is the second baseman – Mets Blog – ESPN New York.

Way back when when “Mets Police” was an email chain to 4 guys you would have gotten about 5,000 emails from me asking why the hell the Mets didn’t get Piazza more reps at first base that year whatever year that was.

Make Murph play 9 every day all spring.  270 innings.   (No need to comment about rest/heat/etc, I’m obviously being extreme.)

  1. See this is where I get lost and maybe someone can change my mind, but I cannot for the life of me understand this love affair with Dan Murphey. I know he hits I do, but thats about all he does, he’s an absolute menace on the bases and in the field and has zero baseball instinct. For every run he drives in he costs you 2 with his glove and baserunning. Now I know he hustles and he’s gritty, but there are just some guys who can’t play and I feel he’s one of them. I know full well I’m in the minority on this but I just had to say it.

    1. I don’t think he’ll make it at second base…that is a very hard position to master and he almost got his knee obliterated last year there.
