Mets sign Ronny Cedeno

In case you missed it, and I sure missed an email (I’m backed up again) the Mes signed Ronny Cedeno.

METS SIGN INFIELDER RONNY CEDENO

FLUSHING, N.Y., January 13, 2012 – The New York Mets today announced the club has signed infielder Ronny Cedeno to a one-year major league contract.

Cedeno, 28, hit .249 (103-413) with 43 runs scored, 25 doubles, three triples, two home runs and 32 RBI in 128 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2011.

He made 118 starts at shortstop and ranked fourth in the National League with a career-high .978 fielding percentage last year. The 6-0, 190-pounder went 45 consecutive games (April 16-June 9) without making an error.

Cedeno batted .256 (120-468) with eight home runs and 38 RBI in 2010 with the Pirates.

The Carabobo, Venezuelan native has posted a career .246 batting average, with 97 doubles, 16 triples, 33 home runs and 196 RBI in 701 games with the Cubs, Mariners and Pirates.
