As I continue sleeping late (other time zone) on family vacation, @mediagoon is in charge today ([email protected]). Here’s a picture that Paul Lukas @uniwatch sent over. I hadn’t seen such a clear shot of the video screen at Shea before. As I understand it, that didn’t last long, and you probably remember that at Shea there was a clock in that spot at the end.

I had always thought that was a loudspeaker, and the Mets logo was on the grill cover.
I had no idea there was ever a video screen there. Great picture.
the video screen was only used for two months of the ’64 season..it was supposed to show still shots of the player up at bat and movies during rain delays etc..however, the technology of the time was not up to the task..during the daylight you could not see anything and even at night time it would only work half the time..the met’s decieded to cover it with a met logo, the jets had a jet logo and even the yankees had a yabnkee logo in 74-75…when the scoreboard came down in ’08 the projector was still in there…
Flop…we may need to research this a bit more…this photo shows the projector still in use on July 23, 1965.

I believe this is a mis-print..should read 1964..i will check it..according to everything i read and know about the monitor it was never used past 1964..
I looked on Retrosheet…that photo is from 1965…not a typo.

Here is something else that is interesting…like you, I thought the Met logo replaced the screen. Watch this video…it seems the logo was there even with the screen in use…see logo at 2:55 and screen at 3:06.
