It was such a great day I almost accidentally wrote “another great day at Shea!”
The place does feel more like home than it has, and I really like the way the new fence looks. I just spent two hours blogging so I’ll make this a quick post and let the pics do the talking.
At first I was quite worried about the crowd. On Thursday this was filled with buses…
and then I had the crosswalk to myself at around 11. Uh oh.
I hung out with Media Goon and my buddy The Braves Fan
And was happy to see people recognized Goon. Someone must read this blog. There even seem to be Media Goon jerseys in abundance!
It was quite cool in the shade so I loved the giveaway
And despite all the twitter rumors, 39,000 showed up! The back rows of the uppers in the shade were empty, I can’t blame anyone for moving down.
I took lots more pics but I need to go fall asleep on a couch. See you at Citi tomorrow – and I will have a surprise!
An aside .. April 8, Gary ‘Kid’ Carter’s bday.
Gary, arguably NYC’s best catcher these last 50 years, was one of those ‘hardest-working-man-in-show-business’ types, playing through injury, manning baseball’s most taxing position, while guiding, nay building the staff.
Winning a championship in 1986, he led the improbable comeback against the Red Sox.
His never-say-die attitude was challenged this past year, when he was stricken w cancer. He won though, active till the end, leaving his home to visit and inspire people in his last days, leaving an indelible mark on anyone who follows baseball.
