Open letter to R.A. Dickey (#wearthecaps)

Dear R.A.,

I hate to put you on the spot.

You’ve been such an inspiration to people all year long going back to your climb of Mount Kilimanjaro to bring awareness to the issue of sexual slavery.

So I know you’ve got BALLS.

I’ve met you in person, I know you’re genuine.

I’ve seen people react to you and even though you are soft-spoken you are a leader. You might even be the true captain of this team despite the longevity of the third baseman (the rest of us can discuss that in the off-season).

So I hate to do this to you, but when I wonder which Met could lead and wear the first responder cap and take the challenges that will come with doing so I think of you. The People’s Captain.

Show up in the dugout with a cap in-game and let the TV camera catch you. Then let it play out. I’d LOVE to see Major League Baseball dare fine you.

I know you’re about team and you’ll put Terry in a spot.

It’s 9/11 and this is New York City and MLB is being stupid and they were stupid last year.

I’ll understand if you don’t want to be the one to stand out from the team….but you already do (in a good way) and that’s why I turn to you.

  1. i’m sorry, but the way to honor the nypd and nyfd and those that were involved in 9/11 isnt by wearing a stupid hat….there, i said it

  2. Pro…may I ask what would be a better way to pay tribute to the first responders?…If you have a better idea, please share. If it were the yankees who took the initiative 11years ago I am sure Bud would be hand delivering them on to the field.
