No Conspiracy: The Mets Needed To Make Wright Captain | The John Delcos New York Mets Report

There is a conspiracy theory everywhere you look. I read one suggesting the Mets made David Wright captain to divert attention away from the field, where they are projected to be bad. Very bad. C’mon. Are you serious?

Actually yes I am serious.  I think the job of the manager is to keep distractions away from his players.   For example, Bobby V was very good at drawing the attention to himself.

The announcement was inevitable, and Terry used it yesterday to buy himself the Friday papers.  Nobody reads on Saturday.  He needs some good news by Sunday or the newspaper crowd will be back.

And plenty of good seats are still available.

  1. I’ve said it before: David Wright, half ballplayer, half Mets marketing plan.

I sort of feel bad for David, but it was his choice. He “bought in”over this off-season. To what, we don’t really know. More Cowgill, I guess.

Nice guy David Wright. Great Met. Not the brightest light in the chandelier.
