@dtwohig put this in the comments but I thought it was quite interesting…
Did anyone really believe Terry was a long-term manager?
Not counting Roy McMillan, Salty Parker, or Mike Cubbage (71 games between the 3 of them), the Mets have had a total of 17 managers. The median number of games they have lasted is 417 (exactly the number that Jerry Manuel managed). (The avg games managed is 476)
Terry Collins has now managed 360 games for the Mets. If he were to last til 417 (assuming no more postponements), his last game as manager would be Sunday, July 14th in Pittsburgh – the last day before the All Star break.
Given that the host team’s manager is always a coach for the All-Star Game, no way would the Mets fire TC just prior to the game. Which means either they do it well before (at least a month I would guess), or wait til the end of the season, at which point he would have managed 486 games.
Of course this is pure speculation
In 2004, when the game was in Houston, the Astros fired manager Jimy Williams the day after the All-Star Game …
TC won’t care. He doesn’t answer to the fans. He said so…
