Should the Dodgers sign Hyun-Jin Ryu to a long-term deal right now?

matt harvey naked robeLook, this kid Ryu has been nothing but amazing.  He now has a 12-3 lifetime record with a 2.91 ERA.  I don’t know why the Dodgers GM isn’t tying up long term funds for a player who is under control for years.

Ridiculous, right?

Well, yesterday on twitter there were calls for Sandy to lock Matt Harvey up long-term.

Why?

Matt will get his payday if he continues to pitch well.  Right now he is 12-9 lifetime with an ERA that was an impressive 2.26 before last night’s game.

Folks around these parts get a little too excited.  Yes Matt has been awesome, but there’s no reason to rush.  I say this with the wisdom of someone who saw Dwight Gooden not win 200 games.  It’s a long way from 12 wins to Cooperstown, and it’s a long way from 12 wins to that first year of free agency.  Sandy (or his successor) has time.

Calm down twitter.

  1. Harvey should be offered a twenty year, guaranteed $500,000,000, contract immediately.
