Did Bud Selig think Shea Stadium was a pit?

In a discussion about Whatever The Place The A’s Play is called (Oakland Coliseum?) the commish reportedly said…

“It’s a pit, it reminds me of old County Stadium and Shea Stadium

  1. Shea had its own “character” – beloved by Mets fans but I can see where it might not have been tops on others’ lists. I was shocked at how fast the walls came down in the demolition videos…as though it was held up by toothpicks. I spent many a game in its stands and loved the place. Keep in mind the architectural culture of the time it was built – not a strong one in American building history in general! Citifield is gorgeous, much nicer(imho)than the new Yankee Stadium – that being said, having grown up going to Shea, it will always have a special place in my heart 🙂
