Mets’ mission to rid themselves of their second best player continues (#imwith28)

daniel murphy thanks mets

According to sources, the Mets have discussed at least two scenarios that would make Young the everyday second baseman in 2014: Trading Murphy, or making Murphy the first baseman. The latter is less likely, because Sandy Alderson is said to prefer power at that corner position.

Ike Davis had 9 home runs last year.

EY hit .251 last year.

  1. If they trade murph im done, hes are second most productive player! He never gets any recognition from the fans or you sports writers and its wrong!! Trade the bums Ike and Lucas DUNOTHING and put Flores at 1rst

  2. The second best player on a team that finished 22 games out. Big whoop. Is MLB giving out bonus points for cool hashtags now?

No doubt, Murphy has been one of the more fun Mets players to follow, but there’s a lot of relativity involved in that statement. It’s entirely plausible that a Murphy trade could address more of the Mets’ issues than it creates within the context of the entire winter.

  3. I am okay with Murphy being gone. The guy may be a good team mate but he is a selfish ballplayer. As a #2 hitter he needs to look at more pitches, work the count and move the lineup to his #3 (and best) hitter, David Wright. How many times do we watch Murphy swing at the first pitch as a rally is mounting or simply refuse to take a walk?

If we can’t replace or improve on a .285 hitter with 12 hr potential then we have some huge problems. Oh wait, we do.

  4. Been a mets fan since 1964. If they trade Murphy I won’t watch them. He’s the most interesting hitter in the line up. A guy who I think can win a batting title if he took a few more walks. When your offense is as bad as the Meys how can you trade this guy ?
