Two Days Until Opening Day!

With all the new surrounding Santana, today’s countdown post is a mini version, just a look at this Shea Stadium panorama I took on Opening Day 2006 (with help from of Photoshop Elements).

Heading into the 2006 season, Marty Noble said “If the Mets are going to win a division championship, this is the year. No other team in the NL East seems as well-equipped and the club has been assembled with October in mind.”

Yahoo! Sports said “The New York Mets have good reason to be optimistic this season”

And a new advertisement on the outfield wall simply proclaimed we had “The Strength To Be There*”

*By the way, why am I just now realizing the parallel meltdowns of AIG and the economy and the Minaya-era Mets?

Not @mediagoon’s Mets Bobbleheads #51: Ike Davis

Since Shannon, Goon, and I have pretty much cleaned out our closets of Mets jerseys (at least for now, we all know there will be more later), I was thinking where can we go from here. Easy answer – who doesn’t love bobbleheads?

Another in the Gold’s sponsored bobblehead series (supposedly there is a curse with these) – and Ike did contract Valley Fever after this was announced.

We’ll be wrapping up this series on Sunday – not because I’ve run out (Ha!), but with the regular season comes less fluff posts (we hope). I’ve acquired a good number of these bobble on my own (at games, team stores, etc), but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Kevin Goodman who runs Mets Bobbleheads on Facebook. September 27, 2008 – My Scorecard

Hands down the single greatest pitching performance I have personally witnessed was Johan’s complete game shutout over the Marlins on September 27, 2008. It wasn’t a no-hitter and it asn’t a payoff game (well close), but when you consider that Johan was pitching on short rest with a torn meniscus; that the Mets were one loss from being eliminated from the playoffs; and that this was Shea Stadiums last weekend and the emotion was running sky high. Johan took the entire team on his shoulders, ignored the pain, and carried the team and 55,000 plus in attendance into that last game at Shea still hoping for playoff baseball.

Two years later K-Rod would inspire a quote we have used many times here at Mets Police. On that rainy night in September, Johan Manned Up and Played Better.

METS RELEASE STANDING ROOM ONLY TICKETS FOR OPENING DAY AT

I highly doubt this needed to be done. What tricks are you up to Mets?

The New York Mets today announced the club released a limited supply of standing room only tickets for Opening Day at Citi Field. Standing room only tickets cost $45 and are on sale now at Mets.com, (718) 507-TIXX and the Citi Field Ticket Windows. The Mets open the 2013 season this Monday, April 1 against the San Diego Padres at 1:10 p.m.

Mets offering standing room tickets for Opening Day

My conspiracy theory is this is the middle ground between obvious empty seats, a new “record” and being stubborn about ticket prices.

But I don’t have access to the data so its possible there is overwhelming demand for this game.

I was able to pull 12 tickets in “SRO1” “row2”

I was also able to get 12 tickets in Prom Infield, now priced at $69 (plus fees and more fees).
