Blue Jays: R.A. Dickey releases paperback edition of bestselling autobiography | Toronto Star

Dickey thinks he has another book in him, but he isn’t sure what form it will take.

“Part of me thinks it will be an attempt at fiction, that I’ll really try to write a novel,” he says. “But I’ve got miles to go before I sleep when it comes to that.”

Yep, that was a Robert Frost reference he just slipped in there.

Mets Johan Santana Status

This picture of Johan says it all I think.

Sandy Alderson Conference Call

Johan Santana had MRI done on shoulder and has a possible re- tear on his shoulder. A second surgery is a strong possibility. Johan might be lost for the entire season.

Kevin Burkhardt asked when it might have happened- Alderson said he doesn’t have the answer for that and they don’t know when it might have happened.

Andy Martino- Has any pitcher had this surgery twice?
Alderson These surgeries are difficult to recover from a first surgery and I don’t know if anyone has had two.

NY TImes- Is contract insured?

Alderson- To my Knowledge it isn’t insured.I’m not 100% knowledgeable about it, but it might have been insured earlier in the contract but it is not unusual that the last year of a contract that it wouldn’t be insured.

Bergen Record- Was the bullpen session a few weeks ago when it might have started?(paraphrasing)

NY Post- Are you bringing up anyone earlier?

Alderson- We figured Santana would be on the DL to start so the rotation is set. We will bring up Wheeler when he is ready.

Star Ledger- Has Johan been scheduled for surgery yet?

Alderson- Not yet, going to look at options over the weekend.

This was a quick  “light” transcript. This is the same injury he suffered in 2010. Shannon is going to go on and on about the No Hitter and how it damaged Santana’s arm. I hate when he has ammo to back his theories up. Well this sucks. I wonder how many pages the Mets DL is going to end up being this year. Probably seen the last of Johan in a Mets jersey, I also wonder if its the last time we see him in any baseball uniform.

METS TO HONOR HURRICANE SANDY HEROES OPENING DAY

New York City Native Emmy Rossum to Sing National Anthem With Choir from
Far Rockaway School

Mets to Open Season This Monday, April 1 at 1:10 p.m.
Fans Are Encouraged to Take Mass Transit

FLUSHING, N.Y., March 28, 2013 – The New York Mets today announced they will honor heroes and volunteers who have played an integral role in the response to Hurricane Sandy in a pre-game, on-field ceremony on Opening Day, April 1 at Citi Field. The Mets open their season this Monday against the San Diego Padres at 1:10 p.m.

Five hundred first responders will be honored in the ceremony, including members of the Army National Guard, Army Corp of Engineers, Con Edison of New York, Department of Corrections, Department of Sanitation, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Federal Protective Service, Fire Department of New York, New York City Office of Emergency Management, New York Police Department, New York State Homeland Security, New York State Office of Emergency Management, and United States Homeland Security.

The Mets have donated 1,000 Opening Day tickets to citizens who were heroic in their response to Sandy, and to those who were affected by the devastation. The group includes 300 Habitat for Humanity – New York City volunteers involved in helping New York City families affected by Hurricane Sandy rebuild.

The Mets have designed the event as recognition of the storm and its aftermath, and a reminder that recovery efforts and volunteerism must continue through 2013 and beyond.

Emmy Rossum – a singer, actress and star of Showtime’s Shameless – will sing the National Anthem on Opening Day backed by 50 choir members from the Scholars’ Academy in Far Rockaway. The classically-trained 26-year-old is a Golden Globe Award nominee. Rossum’s second album, “Sentimental Journey,” a collection of standards, was released in January, 2013. The Mets hosted children from the Scholars’ Academy in December at the club’s annual Holiday Party.

Rossum began her theatrical career at the age of seven when she began singing the children’s roles at the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center. Her starring performance as “Christine” in The Phantom Of The Opera in 2004 earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination, as well as the National Board of Review’s Best Female Breakthrough Performance Award and the Broadcast Film Critics Association’s Best Young Actress Award in 2005. Film credits include the recent Warner Bros release Beautiful Creatures, the upcoming Alcon Pictures’ You’re Not You with Hilary Swank, Mystic River, Poseidon, and The Day After Tomorrow.

The Opening Day ceremony kicks off a season-long call to action by the Mets to encourage fans to help their fellow New Yorkers. In the weeks ahead, the Mets will announce programs that will continue to honor Sandy heroes. Mets players including David Wright, Johan Santana, Jonathon Niese, Dillon Gee, Bobby Parnell and Daniel Murphy in the weeks after the storm visited affected areas in Staten Island, Far Rockaway, Breezy Point, Coney Island and Long Beach to aid in the recovery. In December, Wright and the Mets Foundation donated $250,000 to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City to support hurricane restoration efforts.

Not @mediagoon’s Mets Bobbleheads #50: Edgardo Alfonzo

MetsPolice Edgardo Alfonzo 50th Anniversary BobbleheadSince Shannon, Goon, and I have pretty much cleaned out our closets of Mets jerseys (at least for now, we all know there will be more later), I was thinking where can we go from here.  Easy answer – who doesn’t love bobbleheads?

For the 50th in our series I had to go with the final 50th Anniversary Bobblehead – Edgardo Alfonzo.  Who didn’t like Fonzie – and what a true team player.  Want me to go to third?  Sure.  Second?  Yup. Shortstop?  OK.

To those who have asked – yes, all of these are my bobbleheads (at least just the Mets related ones).  And I have them on display along shelves in my Mets-cave.  At some point I’ll probably get or have a cabinet built to display them all.

Wait, did Mike Piazza really do this when he was on the Mets?

Sometimes you punch Piazza into your own blog and find the scariest thing.  Did Mike really do this with his hair?  I must have gone to Rekall after seeing it.
