FLUSHING, N.Y., May 22, 2014 – The New York Mets today announced Howie Rose, the radio voice of the Mets on WOR 710 AM, LITE FM’s Rich Kaminski and Mets in-game hosts Alexa Datt and Branden Wellington will serve as judges for Banner Day this Sunday, May 25 at Citi Field. Tickets for Banner Day and complete guidelines are available at Mets.com/BannerDay.
The judges will select three finalists and then fans at the ballpark and at home will vote for the winner through texting, Twitter and Facebook. Fans who created the winning banner will receive four VIP tickets, the opportunity to watch batting practice from the field, Mets autographed merchandise and in-game recognition at a mutually agreeable game.
Majestic Athletic, as part of its national “Jersey Day” promotion, will outfit the judges in authentic Mets jerseys and award the Banner Day winner with authentic jerseys as well.
Banner Day was a Mets tradition from 1963 to 1996 with fans of all ages parading on the field showing their homemade banners made from bed sheets that professed their love for the team. Banner Day returned in 2012 as part of the Mets’ 50th Anniversary season.
Fans planning on participating in the pre-game, on-field parade on May 25, should follow these guidelines:
· Banner Day participants must have tickets to the game.
· Participants must check in at the Bullpen Plaza on 126th Street at 37th Avenue.
· Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. Space is limited.
· Banners must be bigger than 22″ by 28″.
· Banners cannot have vulgar or abusive language.
· Banners can be commercially produced, but can’t have commercial messages (Websites or Twitter handles are not allowed).
· There is a maximum of four people per banner.
· The Mets reserve the right to deny access to the field to any banner or person that is deemed inappropriate.
In addition to Banner Day festivities, fans also can check out Family Sundays with pre-game interactive games and attractions on Mets Plaza and the first 15,000 fans can pick up a Bartolo Colon poster courtesy of Majestic. After the game, as on all Sundays, kids can run the bases in the Mr. Met dash.
