41 More Amazin’ ideas for the Mets #9: a new victory song

Here’s what we’re doing. We are crowdsourcing 41 ideas for the Mets. The ideas can be big or small. Email me your idea at [email protected]. Today’s idea is from @promenadeview

My idea would be that its time to take care of “taking care of
business” as the Mets victory song.

Being a New York team we have many songs about our town yet every year
we stick with this track.

“New York New York” is instantly associated with a Yankees win. I will
forever associate TCOB as the song the braves played right after Kenny
Rodgers walked in the NLCS winning run in 99. The Mets can do better
than that.

Tracks such as Andrew W.K.’s “I Love New York City, Ace Freely “Back
In a New York Groove” or even Jay Z’s “Empire State Of Mind” would be
an improvement.

Or they could always go with everyone’s favorite tune of “Meet The
Mets” who would object to that?

  1. Kind of silly to Use Empire State of Mind with lyrics like this “Catch me at the X with OG at a Yankee gameSh!t, I made the Yankee hat more famous then a Yankee can”

  2. They’d never do it in a million years, but “New York, New York, It’s a wonderful town” from “Anchors Away” springs to mind.

Also, I guess I wouldn’t mind if they replace TCOB. It could be any team’s victory song. But they better never replace “New York State of Mind” when they lose. I heard it on the radio during the offseason once, and it instantly brought a smile to my face. Why? Because I associate with being at Shea Stadium/Citi Field. There are worse, and less fun, ways to watch your team lose.
