Hi. I am back – rather than figure out what @mediagoon posted and didn’t post I’m just going to jump in and post whatever interests me.
First up, while I was gone I saw that WOR/iHeart had posted a job for pre-game and post-game host and for fill-in play by play.
Mets Radio Broadcasts Will Sound Different Next Season – WSJ – WSJ.
The fill-in part is interesting. Last year the Seth Everett role didn’t do any play by play that I can recall. I wonder if the change is related to Kevin Burkhardt’s departure. Who will fill-in as TV PBP when the regular TV play by play announcer is off. Could Howie slide over to hang with Keith and Ron? That’s pure speculation on my part.
As for replacing Kevin…it’s Gelbs. I’m told on twitter that the News wrote about it, but this has been “known” for months.
As a fan I didn’t feel any sort of a connection with Seth. That’s not a reflection on performance, I just never personally felt connected, whereas Pete McCarthy on whatever the pre-pre-game show is called felt more like “one of us.” Anyway, best of luck to Seth in wherever his career takes him.
I still haven’t digested the uniform stuff, I will do that some time on Monday.
Still out there – the unconfirmed “what’s going in to RF in Citi Field” rumor that I don’t believe and the (redacted) thing that is vaguely (redacted) related.
Thanks to @mediagoon for keeping it together while I was gone. I have the bridge.
WOR radio casts of Mets games were unlistenable when either Howie or John were off, They’d use analysts like Phillips, Duquette or even Byrdak to do a couple inning play-by-play. Sounded like a cheap Wilpon move, obviously, but what it really sounded like was bad sports radio. Vin Scully does one-man radio for crying out loud.
