Happy Colon Day everyone!
I’m not going to do one of those lame season previews where I tell you that Lucas Duda is the first baseman and quote his 2014 stats.
I’m not sure what to make of this team. It’s very easy to get sucked into HARVEY DAY and a feel good spring and eternal optimism, but then I see a September 24th, 2014 type lineup that has Cuddyer in left. Is that really the difference? I guess its better but is it enough?
Matt looked awesome all spring, and he will definitely bring back the buzz that is so often missing since the move to Citi Field. However, Wheeler won 11 games last year so Matt takes his starts and wins…what….20? Would that be the difference?
And what happens if Matt isn’t 1985 Doc Gooden every time? What if he goes 15-1? Will four extra wins be enough? I don’t think so.
This is the first season since the final year at Shea that I don’t have a ticket package and I don’t regret it. I don’t find the Citi Field experience all that great, and I will point out that those of you who do tend to stand on the bridge 500 feet from home. Is that was a ballpark should be?
Last year my son and I found ourselves bored by the ballpark many games, and quite annoyed at a few others (the concert crowds). Combine that with no Saturday day games, a decision I do not understand, and we’re out. No tickets for us.
So, am I excited? Sure. Opening Day away and home are both tons of fun. There’s a solid and VERY IMPORTANT chance to open up strong with the Braves (who already gave up) and Phillies as part of this first stretch. Terry needs to have this bunch come out on fire. I think they need to open up something like 7-2, 6-3 here. Seriously. These games in April matter big time when you tally it up at the end.
We begin our 8th season of covering this circus that is called Mets, with the blog’s anniversary coming up on the 15th. Thanks for reading, and Let’s Go Mets.
