MetsPolice.com turns 7

metspolice 42

And a self-congratulatory Happy Anniversary to us.  It was April 15, 2008 when I started annoying Mets executives and half the fan base.

The short version of the origin is that I wanted to start a blog about something, and I just couldn’t take how stupid it was an is that when everyone wears 42 that there are no names on the back.  (There should never be names on the back anyway).

The blog name comes from my favorite baseball team and my favorite band.  The original idea wasn’t to “police” things, but once the obstructed views showed up in 2009 things took off around here.

I’ll keep this short this year and just do a larger thanks to everyone who has written for the site (even @lagranderusty), read the site, supported the site, and the big fish that link to the site and drive traffic (they know who they are).

And a public thanks to the executives at the New York Mets who have always been nice to me/us despite how annoying Shannon Shark can be.

The blog has ebbed and flowed.  Sometimes we’re pretty positive.  Sometimes negative.  This week we stirred the pot with roll call.  I spent the winter making fun of the media circus that is Matt Harvey.  Today I will probably mock the writers who announce players are wearing 42 like it is actual news.  We write about jerseys.   We write about caps.  It’s all in good fun.

This blog will end when the Mets win the World Series dressed nicely.  There will be one more day covering the ticker tape parade and then rehang the mission accomplished sign and go do something else.

Thanks for reading!
