Citi Field: Legends of Wrestling Review

WRESTLING RING

When I first heard of this event months ago, I thought it was going to be a horror show. @citifield which is The Metropolitan Hospitality twitter account was teasing that they had a “big” wrestling announcement to make. This was at the time when SummerSlam was forced to move out of the now closed Izod Center in the Meadowlands. Speculation was that maybe the “big”announcement was SS was going to be brought to Flushing. Nope. The announcement was that the Legends of Wrestling was coming to CitiField. Some fans were happy about the announcement, some not so much…

There was mentioning of who was appearing for Q and A sessions and for the panels and not any of the actual matches. I was skeptical to say the least. There wasn’t any matches talked about until I would say last week were there were hints here and there of who was working the show.

I heard from a couple of my friends that it was slow to get into the stadium yesterday(I was credentialed so I didn’t have to wait), so I can speak of the lines myself.

They also had a photo op ring set up near the7Line kiosk.ax/smash

Ax and Smash of Demolition

The panel of Bret Hart, Ric Flair, Tommy Dreamer, Matt Sydal, Brodus Clay AKA Tyrus was moderated by Matt Striker. Typical panel of road stories and fav matches. Before this panel there was another panel of Mets Fan, Brian Myers FKA Curt Hawkins, Amy Dumas FKA Lita, Scott Steiner, and The Nasty Boys. I was shocked how organized the Q and A’s were. I kind of expected it to be chaos, but it wasn’t. Metropolitan Hospitality had it worked out really well. Now onto the actual matches.

The preliminary matches had a lot of indie wrestlers. Some I had no idea who they even were at all. I didn’t really pay attention to these matches. The cool thing though is that they did do a video feed into the Ceaser’s Club so fans who were attending the panel’s could see what was going on in the ring.

Now for the Face move of the Day. Brian Myers, lifelong Mets fan, member of the7line army, was led to the ring by none other then……MRS. MET…That’s right. Mrs.Met came down to the ring with The former Curt Hawkins.

Also in action were RVD, Tommy Dreamer, The Nasty Boys, Ken Anderson, Doc Gallows, Wes Briscoe, and Scott Steiner. These are the “name” guys you would know.
Overall…Well run event, not what I had thought was going to happen with it and hopefully this is a test run for a bigger promotion to come in and run a show. If you looked at the crowd yesterday there were about 2600-3000 fans in attendance. Which isn’t bad considering TNA drew about 5000 at the MCU Park a few years ago.
Oh wait…and I can’t forget to mention one last tag team….
The FLacka Seagulls.
