This is an interesting link which I am confident you will find as interesting as I did. If I am reading the article correctly it sounds like right now the mall could not be built, but this decision could be appealed. Very very interesting. Everyone will ignore this because it’s July 4th weekend but very very interesting.
Justice Angela Mazzarelli wrote in the Appellate Division’s unanimous decision. “Its focus is on the stadium, and the stadium only. There is simply no basis to interpret the statute as authorizing the construction of another structure that has no natural connection to a stadium.”
That’s very good news — and I’m honestly surprised. Hopefully the higher court agrees the mall shouldn’t be built there.
It’s great, but I have to be skeptical, it’s probably just false hope to the businesses that are there.
metspolice Not really a big deal until higher court weighs in, especially since project needs environmental clearance first.
howardmegdal ah I’m glad you’re up and around – what is the Cosmos’ end-game? To try and somehow get into MLS? To somehow build NASL?
metspolice TBD. To build up team, find permanent home, and see what opportunities come from that combo.
howardmegdal isn’t that sort of like me taking on Gee’s contract, grabbing some guys, and hoping I can play the Mets an exhibition game?
howardmegdal i am by no means anti-Cosmos, and they seem serious about it, I just don’t get the plan.
howardmegdal maybe they hang around long enough and Red Bull gets sick of owning a team and there is a sale/rebrand
metspolice They believe soccer situation in this country is far less settled than MLB.
