Why couldn’t I tell if Matt Harvey was wearing a uniform jersey on Saturday?

Professorson

My eyes must really be going. Fox was showing Matt in the dugout and I couldn’t tell if he had a jersey on or not. Here’s a picture (no embed available) if you want to see for yourself why I may have been having such a hard time seeing it.

The Mets were dressed in pinstripes today, and MLB rule 3.03 say all players have to wear matching uniforms, and 4.07 further mentions players “in uniform” so I’m confident Matt was wearing one, I just can’t see it because I am a horrible looker.

You may recall that in 2007 Terry Francona was spot-checked by an umpire when it was suspected he did not have a uniform top on under his jacket.

You may also find this lengthy discussion of such things interesting.

Anyway, I should have my eyes checked, right?

  1. Whenever Harvey isn’t starting, he seems to be out of uniform that way.  I’ve noticed it over and over.  Meanwhile, deGrom, Syndergaard, Matz–they’re all always in uniform when they’re on the bench, as far as I’ve seen.  I know this is probably reading too much into it, but, to me, it’s another instance of Harvey not being a team player.  When it’s not his day to pitch, he just can’t be bothered to put on his jersey like his teammates.  Hell, when Wright was with the team in CA while on the DL, he was in uniform.  What does it say that Harvey doesn’t bother?

(Oh, and don’t tell me Wright wasn’t/isn’t “in uniform” because of his undershirt.  Orange is a Mets color.  That ‘issue’ matters easily the least of anything ever discussed on this website–which is saying something.  Let it go.  Yell about Cespedes’s yellow arm sleeve first.)
