This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty: The “It’s The Most Frustrating Time Of The Year !” Edition

MetsPolice Sid Fernandez Signed Card

It’s been a little bit more than three weeks since the Mets lost the World Series in 5 games to the Kansas City Royals, but it feels like three months. It feels like both time has grinded to a halt and the Mets with the exception of a handful of minor transactions have also.

I have purposely taken a brief vacation from Twitter because I just can’t stomach all the negativity that’s currently being bandied about. Whether it’s about how high the Mets payroll will rise – if at all or the Zobrist or Murphy debate or whether Matt Harvey should be traded for ( insert name of power bat outfielder here) I just can’t find myself  getting entangled into getting into “spiritual debates” or outright name calling if I don’t agree with other fans doom and gloom scenarios.

I will withhold my judgment until after the Winter Meetings are held ( early next month) before I start to panic about moves that were or weren’t made. But you know something that I have learned from the past 7 or 8 years that I have been blogging and bellyaching ? Neither the front office or ownership really  cares what my opinion is  whether it’s good or bad – as long as I spend money on tickets and merchandise.

I just want to see this organization consistently field a winner… I just wish that this offseason would start picking up steam. Yes I am frustrated and maybe a bit burnt out after the major high of making it this deep into the post season. I’m just hoping these feelings of frustration give way to feelings of confidence by the time Spring Training rolls around.

And with that said… HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!!

Current Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson is 68 (1947)

Reserve outfielder from the ’73 season, Rich Chiles is celebrating his 66th birthday (1949).

Middle reliever from the ’92 season, Lee Gutterman is 57  (1958).

Middle reliever from ’97-’88, Gene Walter turns 55  (1960). Does anybody remember him because I sure don’t!

Mets outfielder from ’98-’02, Jay Payton is 43 (1972).

Reserve outfielder from ’06-’07, Ricky Ledee is 42 (1973).

Other transactions of note include:

The Baltimore Orioles signed “El” Sid Fernandez of the New York Mets as a free agent on November 22, 1993. I was truly saddened to see Sid go. In my opinion he was the true MVP of the ’86 World Series.

The New York Mets signed free agent spot starter/middle reliever, Mike Remlinger on November 22, 1993.

The San Diego Padres claimed spot starter/middle reliever, Jason Middlebrook of the New York Mets on waivers on November 22, 2000.

The Tampa Bay Devil Rays signed middle reliever, Jason Roach of the New York Mets as a free agent on November 22, 2004.

The Colorado Rockies signed middle reliever, LaTroy Hawkins of the New York Mets as a free agent on November 22, 2013.
